Milwaukee Schools Teacher Residencey Rule Change Proposed

A plan to lift the residency requirement for Milwaukee public school teachers is in the works.

State Senator Alberta Darling and State Representative Scott Gunderson plan to introduce a bill next month to allow teachers to live outside the city limits. The Republicans argue the residency requirement discourages quality teachers from teaching in the district. No other school district in Wisconsin has a residency condition. - WISN News

I have argued this for years. You should be worried about getting the best teachers available for the job. All you accomplish with this restriction is limit your pool of Teachers to choose from. Lets face some facts, Milwaukee is not the place that you want to raise a family. Taxes are ridiculous, crime has been out of control. The suburbs around Milwaukee open up a whole lot of opportunity for the school district.
