Walker & Van Hollen Appeal Gay Marriage Decision

It shouldn't be with much surprise that the Governor and Attorney General are filing an appeal on the ruling that declared Wisconsin's Gay Marriage Ban unconstitutional.

Everyone wants to read into it way more than they should.  That is the job of the Governor and Attorney General to uphold the laws of the state that they are elected.  The ban was approved by the voters in the state by 59%.  The only county that didn't approve the ban was Dane county.  So it is the job of the State's Elected Officials to uphold those laws and fight for those laws.

It seems that people forget or don't understand that it is their job.  We all watch as the President has decided that he won't follow the laws or uphold them.  That is a big problem.  You can't have elected officials just change what laws to follow every time a new person is elected.  If you don't agree with a law or don't like one, get it changed through the proper channels.  You can't just choose to ignore it.

With the Gay Marriage Ban you have to remember that this isn't just a law that some right or left leaning legislature put on the books.  It was also a referendum sent to the voters to be approved.  It was voted on by the public and approved by 59% of them.

I have read that times have changed and people are more accepting of Gay Marriage.  I can't disagree with that.  I have always been accepting of it.  However that doesn't change the law.  For those that think it should, how about the Health Care Law?  A Vast Majority now disagree with it, does that mean we should just throw it out?  No it doesn't.  I wish they would, but you have to go through the proper channels and change the law or repeal the law.  Whether it is Gay Marriage or Health Care or the many many many laws and regulations that are out there, if it is a law then it should be followed and upheld by the Elected Leaders and Judges.  If it is a law that the Majority doesn't like or want then it should be repealed or changed through Legislation or Referendum.

Bill Penzey uses Penzey Spices to Push His Political Agenda

Penzey Spices used to be that place right off the Highway that as I drove by the smell would catch your attention and make you smile.  Not so much anymore.

I have lost that feeling as the Leader of Penzey's, Bill Penzey is using his catalogs to sell a political agenda that I find disrespectful to so many.  I don't really give a hoot about what his political leanings are and whether he gives money to this candidate or that candidate, but when you use your catalogs to push that agenda I step aside and find other places to purchase my spices.

I have not sat foot in one of their stores nor used a single product of theirs since this has been happening.  Now every time I  happen to passing down the highway and get that smell, I give old Penzey the one finger salute.

Obama's World a Complete Mess

President Obama has watched the world turn into a complete mess under his watch.

Forget about all the other issues that we have going on like Health Care, Veterans Affairs, Benghazi, IRS and the Illegal overreach of the Administration.

Currently we have some other real serious issues going on that are snagging the Headlines.

The Crisis at the US Border, Iraq and now Israel.  None of these issues are garnering much attention from the Leader of the Free World.  Sure Obama has asked for $3.7 Billion to solve the Border issue.  That is only to help cover the costs we are running up due to the crisis, not a solution to it.  The Obama Administration has asked for restraint in Israel.  That is some serious leadership in an area of the world that is flooding with Terrorist and our only true Ally is under attack.  Iraq continues to be a disaster in which one of our biggest enemies is the one stepping in.

It is sad that it has taken almost 6 years and the ever mounting issues to arise before people are starting to realize that Obama is the worst President ever.  Even more sad is the fact that some people still blindly support him and refuse to call him out on any issue.

I am not really sure what it takes to get people to forget about the politics and just stand up for the USA!!!

Mary Burke, OOPS!!!

From the Journal Sentinel 7/9/2014:

Seven years after Mary Burke's state Commerce Department issued a $12.3 million award aimed at enticing Illinois-based Abbott Laboratories to expand in Wisconsin, federal officials declared the award improper and demanded their money back.

The deal, touted in 2006 as sure to attract at least 2,400 new jobs with the pharmaceutical giant, has yielded no jobs with the company, which has not developed a site the grant helped assemble.

Term Limits for Politicians

Politics have gotten to be big business.  Politicians are spending millions on campaigns and making millions along the way.

Our Government was suppose to be "for the people, by the people"

Well not so much anymore.  Politicians are running our country and not necessarily for the people and most definitely not by the people.

We need to enact term limits for politicians.  If we limit the amount of time someone can be a Senator or member of Congress we can start getting rid of these lifelong politicians that spend their whole time trying to keep their job instead of making the hard choices that a politician should make.  These people won't reform entitlements or cut the deficit because they are afraid of not being re-elected.

We also need to get rid of the golden net for these people.  Only allow a short time frame for them to be in Congress and then they go back to being a normal citizen like you and I.

That way the decisions that they make while being in Congress are the laws and rules that they will live by when they get out.  They won't have a different set of rules and regulations designed for them.  They will be forced to make the hard choices and live by the decisions they make.

Then and only then will we truly see a Government for the people by the people.

Hillary Clinton Pre 2016 Media Tour Falls Flat

Hillary Clinton who has tried to use her book tour and the media to set herself up for the 2016 race to the White House has found herself hurting her image instead of improving it.

She has made mistake after mistake and has actually taken a hit among Democrats.  Her approval amongst Democrats has dropped some 11 points since she started her book tour.  From her claims of being broke and in debt to trying to say she was just like us struggling to make her house payments.  All the while her and Bill where bringing in Millions.

Now she is trying to distance herself from President Obama.  She will also eventually have to figure out a response to Benghazi that will sell, because that is going to haunt her all the way through.

I think that she may have lost her shot at the White House.  Obama has tainted the well too much for a Democrat to win in 2016.  It was the same way in the 2008 election.  After Bush there was no way, no matter who the Republican Candidate was, that a Republican was going to win.  That is going to hold true in 2016 for the Democrats.  The only chance I think Clinton had of winning the White House was for her and the Democrats to push for her to win out over Obama and take out a sitting President from their own party.

I think had they done that in 2012 we would be looking at a whole different political landscape and the Democrats could have been looking at a chance to hold the White House in 2016.

What does raising the Minimum Wage Mean?

I am not an economist or Politician.  But I have a brain and use it once in a while.

I was discussing the minimum wage issue with a couple of friends and we came up with this.  So I thought I would share.

People discussing raising the minimum wage is saying that it is important so people who are working at the current wage just can't make ends meet.  So how is this most likely to work out.

Lets look at it as a business owner or Manager.

During the regular course of a day you have 5 people working for you at minimum wage.  They all work 8 hours a day and 40 hours in a week.

The wage now increases $3.  So you are now paying each worker an extra $24 a day and $120 a week.  Since you have 5 people working for you it is costing you $120 a day and $600 a week.  You now have choices as an owner/manager.  Do you lose out on $600 in profit?  You can raise your prices.  In a competitive business might mean less work and the downfall of your company.  Do you lose out on $30,000 profit over the course of the year?  Do you cut employees or hours to maintain your margins?

I think we all know what the answer is going to be.

So tell me who does raising the minimum wage help?  The ones that keep their jobs?  How about the ones that went to now having no income?

Payroll is generally the single biggest expense in running a business.  When you need to make cuts to keep a business profitable and afloat it is generally done in payroll.  You cut your staff or you cut their hours.

Crisis on the Border

Obama's crisis on the Border could become a crisis for all of us.

Multiple reports of Diseases have been reported and the lack of response to quell the influx of illegals crossing the border means the situation is likely to get much worse.

Still without a decision on what or if there is a plan to deal with this situation, the flow just keeps coming.

Obama who is scheduled to be in Texas thus far has made no plans to visit the border or see first hand what is happening.

Brewers Heading to All Star Game

Two Milwaukee Brewers will be in the starting lineup at the All Star Game while two more will be in reserve.

Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Gomez got the start by winning the fan vote.  Lucroy and Frankie Rodriguez were voted in by the players.

It is good to see Ramirez and Gomez get rewarded for their efforts by the fans.  In a small market like Milwaukee many times that goes overlooked.

It is sad that it is a popularity vote as even the ESPN Announcers agreed that Jonathan Lucroy should have been the starting Catcher.

Lucroy stats/standing at Catcher against the MLB

1st in Batting Avg .329    Molina 3rd .292
1st in OBP .397               Molina 5th .342
1st in Slugging .516        Molina 7th .414
1st in Runs 42                 Molina 7th 30
1st in Hits 104                Molina 2nd 86
2nd in RBIs 42               Molina 15th 30

Between the two in fielding they are neck and neck.  Lucroy has 3 errors and Molina 2, Lucroy has thrown out more baserunners.

University's Want more Money, Hillary gets Paid

As University's around the Country are raising tuition and asking for more funding at the same time as they are paying out big money for Speakers to visit their campuses.

Hillary Clinton is benefiting from these speaking engagements.  University's and Colleges are paying here $200-$300 Thousand dollars a speech.

Not bad work if you can get it.  Especially when you are broke and struggling like the Clinton's are.

Wisconsin Senator in Court against Obama

Sen. Ron Johnson will be in court today for a hearing on his suit against the Obama Administration.

Sen. Johnson has filed suit challenging Obama's changing of laws with the stroke of a pen.  The specific law he is challenging is the one that gave Congress and it's employees basically a waiver in regards to Obamacare.

Even though that is what the lawsuit is in regards too, the ruling would have much wider implications.  It would challenge much of what Obama has done over the last several years with his pen instead of Congress.

Obama took a beating in the Supreme Court with his overreach in recess appointments and many in the legal world believe that he has drastically over extended on his power with the changing of laws and regulations without approval from Congress.

Many on the left will argue that he did it out of necessity because the Republicans blocked his efforts.  That is true.  However that is what the Constitution intended.  It was put in place to allow the power to make laws and regulations in the hand of the legislative branch.  It also was put in place so that one branch did not have to much power and would be subject to checks and balances from the other branches.  The Republicans majority in the House was picked by the people of America.  Therefore, they are acting within their Constitutional rights to block legislation.  As is Obama in his Constitutional right to Veto legislation.  However the question that is now being asked of the third part of Government is, Is the Executive Branch allowed to change laws and regulations without the legislative branch?  Most legal experts say emphatically NO!

It is about time that this is called into question and hopefully the Courts will act with a sense of urgency to resolve this and move our Country forward.
