President Obama, with his massive Stimulus Plan in a huge fight on Capitol Hill, hits the road to try and sell his plan to the American People. The Problem is, he is going to areas that are mostly Democratic areas to sell his plan. That isn't were you need to be, you to go where it is more diverse.
Obama obviously wants to preach to the choir, he doesn't want to face the hard questions.
Polls have shown that not only has support for the Stimulus plan dropped to below 40%, the President's own numbers have been dropping. He shows only an 8% difference in those who strongly believe he is doing a good job and those who strongly believe he is doing a bad job. His Political Capital is taking a quick hit over this bailout and he didn't expect it. He knows that he is going to need it for the additional bailouts that he is planning on going to Congress to get.
The President is going before the American People tonight with a TV Sales Pitch. The problem with this is that he won't have to answer the hard questions. Yes, this bill may put some people to work, but it will be under a contract and will only last a short time, before those same people will be back on unemployment. Is that going to stimulate the economy for the long term? Is this limited work enough to offset the huge debt that we are incurring?
President Obama has found that all the free rides that he enjoyed as a Candidate and President Elect have long gone away. He is finding the going quite rough in the White House, and that he is being held accountable. He isn't accustomed to this. During the election he was able to wipe away issues at will, not anymore.
This Stimulus fight will continue to hurt him and the Democrats as it prolongs. This week will be a key week for both the President and the Democratic party. Pelosi has found herself the target from both sides as her job approval rating has dipped even lower. (who would of thought that possible)
