Green Bay Press Gazette Admits Error

The Green Bay Press Gazette has faced criticism across the spectrum for it's blatantly false headline and sub headline about Mary Burke's release from Trek.

They claimed the story of her being fired as false and made insinuations that Gov Walker may have been involved.

Today Right Wisconsin reports what Green Bay Press Gazette said in response.

Right Wisconsin

Hi Jerry,

In reference to the headline in Saturday’s paper, here is a correction that is posted on our website and will appear in tomorrow’s print edition. Thanks.

Headline on governor’s race story incorrect

A headline that appeared on the front page of Saturday’s paper was incorrect. The secondary headline on the story about the governor’s race said a claim that gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke was fired from Trek Bicycle was false.

Though Burke supporters dispute the claim that surfaced last week and have called it “ridiculous,” the claim has not been determined to be false by an independent entity.

Wait, there’s more! A listener of mine contacted one of the authors of the piece, Doug Schneider, who admitted to being the headline writer and apologized!

Hello, xxxx:

I apologize for the error. I work hard to be an accurate reporter, and in this case my headline fell short.

We’ve posted a correction to our website at  http://gbpg.net/1s7Vvz4 and we will also have one in tomorrow’s newspaper.

Thank you for being passionate about this issue, and for having taken the time to write.

Doug Schneider
Metro reporter
