MILWAUKEE - Today, supporters and opponents of Milwaukee's new sick leave policy will enter a courtroom today.
They'll hear a judge ruling on whether to temporarily halt the measure.
It would require all employers who operate in the City of Milwaukee to give 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 72 paid sick leave hours every year.
Employers with less than 10 employees would have to give a maximum of 40 hours per year for each employee.
Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce President Tim Sheehy says that the side he's on, the side opposing the measure, probably has a good chance of getting the injunction put in place so that it doesn't start on the planned February 10th beginning.
"We think we have a good case this morning, but that's why you play the game. I don't know what the outcome is going to be, but we think we have a good case, and we'll be asking the judge for a temporary injunction while we sort out the legal issues," said Sheehy on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News.
"I would say that the suit is against the city, but the city is not opposing the injunction. The 9 to 5 organization is the group that is in the case that is opposing the injunction." - WTMJ Story
Let's all hope that someone has some sanity in this matter. This was just another attempt by Milwaukee to drive businesses out of the City. The Mayor wants to get some of that Stimulus money to build a business center, Hello you have to have businesses wanting to be here first.
