Chief Flynn, during a radio call in show, blamed Madison for making Milwaukee “prisoners of the laws as written.”
However in a Right Wisconsin Story, Media Trackers Research suggested the Milwaukee Justice System is to blame:
But as Media Trackers showed in our report, 10 of the 16 individuals that used a gun to commit a homicide/murder were previous felons and committing a felony simply by having the gun they used in their crimes.
Media Trackers also reported that 15 of the 33 individuals whose cases had concluded received a combined 220 years in prison and 128 years of extended supervision of the 952 years of imprisonment they were eligible for. Thirteen of the 15 cases had also been plea bargained.
While Fitzgerald, Flynn and Barrett trade jabs over the role the state should play in reducing Milwaukee’s crime, according to our own research, Fitzgerald is on solid ground when pointing to the Milwaukee justice system’s reliance on plea bargaining and soft sentencing.
