French and Obama on Collision Course during Summit

Tensions over how to handle the global economic crisis erupted before the G20 summit even began with French President Nicolas Sarkozy threatening today to walk out of the meeting if the countries do not agree to stronger international financial regulations.

Sarkozy's tough talk puts him at odds with President Obama who arrived in London today en route to the meeting of the world's wealthy nations. The proposal is opposed by Obama as well as British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The French president is quoted in the Paris newspaper Le Figaro vowing, "If there's no progress in London, there'll be an empty chair. I'll get up and leave."

"Yes, we will," French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde told the BBC. "President Sarkozy was very clear on that front. He said that 'If the deliverables are not there, I won't sign the communiqué'... It means walking away." - ABC News Story

This will be interesting, we all know how Obama gets when he doesn't get what he wants. He will plan town hall meetings all across France and then have some Lobby Groups put out ads bashing the French President and Blame everything on Bush.
