Biden says Cheney is "Dead Wrong"

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Joe Biden brushed aside recent criticism by predecessor Dick Cheney that moves by the Obama administration had put the United States at risk, telling CNN on Tuesday that the former vice president was "dead wrong."

"I don't think [Cheney] is out of line, but he is dead wrong," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "This administration -- the last administration left us in a weaker posture than we've been any time since World War II: less regarded in the world, stretched more thinly than we ever have been in the past, two wars under way, virtually no respect in entire parts of the world.

"... I guarantee you we are safer today, our interests are more secure today than they were any time during the eight years" of the Bush administration.

In an interview with CNN's John King last month, Cheney said President Obama had been "making some choices that in my mind will raise the risk to the American people of another attack."

Biden said former President Bush had not been fully aware of the country's position in the world. Video Watch Biden lash out on Bush and Cheney »

"I remember President Bush saying to me one time in the Oval Office, and he was a great guy, enjoyed being with him. He said to me, he said, 'Well, Joe,' he said, 'I'm a leader.' And I said, 'Mr. President, turn around and look behind you. No one's following.' People are beginning to follow the United States again as a consequence of our administration."

"... I think the biggest thing we're doing is, I'm operating in concert with the president," he said. "There are not -- there are -- look, everybody talks about how powerful Cheney was. His power weakened America, in my view."

But he did not deny reports of disagreement within the Obama administration as well, over the president's plan to widen involvement in Afghanistan. A report last week said Biden had warned about the possibility of getting into a quagmire, while military advisers pushed for more troops. - CNN Story

The problem with getting into a debate about who is right, is that if another attack happens then you give more credence to the other side. The Obama administration is living dangerously by arguing their point on this.

What I find very interesting about this silly topic is that it is obvious that Cheney was only continuing to defend his administrations policy of war mongering for the sake of war mongering. Everyone has blown Cheney's remark off as inaccurate and blatantly partisan. Cheney has no credibility. Yet CNN continues to beat this dead horse every time a member of the Obama administration gets in front of their cameras. It's easy to see that CNN has become just another corporate-run mouthpiece for the GOP posing as a news organization.

Nothing Obama has done has increased the likelihood of our being vulnerable to a terrorist attack. We do have to ask ourselves: if Dick Cheney and other members of the Bush administration were really so worried about national securiity and terrorism, why did they refuse to secure our borders, allow millions of illegal aliens to enter andremain in the country, refuse to secure our ports, and piss away nearly a trillion dollars in Iraq, when the terrorist they allowed to attack us were in Pakistan and Afghanistan?

Some of your comments are very interesting. You are blaming Bush for not securing the Borders? Remember, he fought against the Democrats in Congress to put up a more secure border to the South.

You also are blaming bush for the Millions of Illegal Aliens who have entered and remain in the US. It has been members of the Democratic Party that are fighting to keep Illegals here and provide for them.

I do agree that CNN is beating a dead horse, but CNN was behind Obama and not McCain in the last election, so to call them a mouthpiece for the GOP would be something rather extra-ordinary.

Dick Cheney dosen't get it and neither did Bush. You can't fight global Terrorism by snobing other counties and creating a war out of assumption.
Cheney is a little more raical than the country he lives in and need to wake up.

Biden needs to do us a favor and go hunting with Cheney.

Of course what you expect him to say; Chaney is right! NO will will do the political spin and say NO. However the Obama administration is doing the impossible to reverse anything that Bush and the congress have done. Obama administration including him, are for Open borders, No border security, no ICE, No home land security, reduce defence, rename terrorism, on the thinking that if there is a terrorist act, is not call as such, it will be a MAN MADE DESASTER! not a terrorist attack! another spin from the Marxist socialist party of Obama.

I find it ironic that a man such as Cheney, who couldn't be bothered for much after 9/11, he had to hide in his undisclosed location you see, is talking about safety. What exactly did you see while laying low like a coward, but sending other people's sons to the front lines?

He is ignorant, mediocre at best, and generally, an embarrasment to this country.

Bush and Cheney's policies were idiotic to say the least. How do you ensure your safety? Well not going out of your way to ensure that much of the world absolutely despises your country would be a good start.

People didn't just wake up one day and decide that they hated the U.S. America has worked pretty hard at it.

Biden is an idiot, the more he speaks the better off Republicans are.

It is a little early for Mr. Biden's victory lap. Neither Mr. Biden or Mr. Cheney are correct. They both have opinions. I note however that Mr. Cheney served as VP for 8 years and several mored as Defense Secretary. I note that Mr. Biden couldn't find it in his soul to vote for the Persian Gulf War 1 when Sadamn invaded Kuwait and probably would have gone after Saudia Arabia to get control of the worlds oil supply. Also Mr. Biden couldn't vote for the TransAlaska pipeline which supplies this country with huge amounts of nat gas and oil. So far Mr. Biden's judgements appear to be no better than Mr. Cheney's and perhaps worse.

I hate to blow away all this crap but we were not safe under BUSH as he was in office and warned by the Clinton administration of the danger. Bush and Cheney both ignored the warnings. I lived in fear under those two idiots because they did piss off the entire world with actions and words and then when our own country was in dire straights with natural disasters, those two were no where to be seen. Bush seemed to dare the world to blow us up. I, too am for dissolving the joke known as Homeland security. This is MY country and I quit flying a few years back. Not out of fear but because my constitutional right were taken away. I was even harassed at the border by our own border patrol. Went over had lunch and bought my dad a bottle as a gift and that jerk put me through hell because when he asked where I was from and I answered Seattle wa, he got nasty, went through my purse etc. Since I had been doing this same thing weekly, the other border patrolman told him to let me through and he said no. Look I am an old woman, in cut offs and a tank top, a bag with a bottle and a fanny pack and white as snow. This was before our famous 9/11! I feel safer with Obama because he is a gentleman, Bush NOT, Cheney NOT. Sure, Joe Biden puts his foot in his mouth and that is why I have loved him for many many years. I respect him. Cheney was an is a criminal and the rest of what he and Bush have done will come out no matter how they try to spin it. If you ask me, Obama is practicing "safe country" by mending the wounds the last administration has made on world leaders. I don't agree with many of them but I wouldn't go out of my way to insult them either. Our country need it's self respect and AmericanPride back. It has been so long since I have felt it, like maybe 40 years!!! Our kids don't even know what pride in America is or the pride in the respect our country had from other countries. We were leaders back then and looked up to back then.
The people that only watch Fox, or only watch MSNBC should try watching other new channels so they can get a well rounded opinion and throw out all the bull. Somewhere in there, you might fing truth. Both parties have failed ALL of us. One group has no balls and the other has all the money, thanks to the first group being totally inactive for the American People.
